# Individual – Recover Online Username or Password

Follow these steps if you have forgotten your password:

1. Click **Sign** In at the top-right of the [TaxAct](https://www.taxact.com/) website.
2. On the **Sign In** screen, enter the username, email address, or the mobile phone number associated with your TaxAct account.
3. Click **Sign In**.
4. On the **Sign in with Password** screen, click **I forgot my password**.
5. Follow on-screen prompts to verify your identity and reset your credentials.
   - If you do not receive a code, you can use the **Alternative Verification** process (online only) to recover your account.
6. Select and enter a new password for your account (requirements are displayed on the screen and shown below). Once each requirement has been met, click **Update Password**.
7. You are logged into your account.
   - (Optional) You can go to the **Settings** menu to change how you will receive verification codes, or to update your email or phone number.

 ***Alternative Verification** (online only): On the screen **Enter the code we sent to your phone** and **Enter the code we sent to your email**, you can click **Verify your identity** instead. This process will allow you to answer questions about personal information to recover your account. There are five steps to the account recovery process.

### Password Requirements

- 10–100 characters
- One uppercase letter
- One lowercase letter
- One number
- Two different symbols (i.e., @, #)
- Cannot begin or end with a space
