Professional Edition: Form W-2 – Adding, Reviewing, or Deleting
Reporting income from Form W-2 is simple in TaxAct. In the TaxAct program, you can import, add, review/edit, and delete multiple copies of Form W-2. To add multiple copies of Form W-2, see Form W-2 – Filing Multiple Copies for instructions.
Adding
To add a Form W-2 in TaxAct:
TaxAct Online
Dashboard
- From within the TaxAct return, click Income.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Under Quick Add, click the plus sign (+) to add Form W-2.
- Alternatively, expand the Wages and Salaries drop down and click Add to the right of Wages, Salaries, & Tips.
- You can choose Manual entry, Upload a file, or Take a pic. Make your selection.
- Complete the rest of the interview process.
- At the end of the interview process, you will be asked if you want to add another W-2. Click Yes if you have another one to add now.
Classic
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- On smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen to expand the menu, then make your selection.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click + Add Form W-2.
- Complete the rest of the interview process.
Desktop
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click + Add Form W-2.
- Complete the rest of the interview process.
Importing
Not all Forms W-2 are eligible for importing into the TaxAct program. Whether a W-2 is eligible for importing into the TaxAct program is based on the Employer Identification Number (EIN) on your W-2.
To enter the EIN on Form W-2, and import the Form W-2 you received into the TaxAct program:
- From within Form W-2, on the screen titled We’ll start with your W-2 or Let’s start your next W-2, type the Employer Identification Number.
- If your Form W-2 is eligible for import, the next screen will be titled Import W-2 – Authentication Credentials.
- Continue with the interview process to import Form W-2.
Reviewing
To review or edit a Form W-2 in TaxAct:
TaxAct Online
Dashboard
- From within the TaxAct return, click Income.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Under My Income, locate the W-2 that you had added or updated from the prior year.
- To the right, click Edit.
- If you had started entering information, but did not complete all your entries, you will see Continue instead of Edit.
Classic
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click Edit next to the form that you want to review/edit.
- Continue with the interview process to review/edit your information.
Desktop
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click Review next to the form that you want to edit.
- Continue with the interview process to review/edit your information.
Deleting
To delete Form W-2 in TaxAct:
TaxAct Online
Dashboard
- From within the TaxAct return, click Income.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Under My Income, locate the W-2 that you want to remove.
- To the right, click on the three-dot menu and choose Remove from return.
Classic
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click the Delete icon (trashcan) next to the form that you want to delete.
- Click Ok to confirm that you want to delete the form.
Desktop
- From within the TaxAct return, click Federal.
- Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
- Click Delete (trashcan icon) next to the form that you want to remove.
- Click Yes to proceed with the deletion.
