Form 4868 – Filing a Federal Individual Tax Return Extension (Professional)
You can complete Form 4868 within your TaxAct Professional Edition program by following these steps:
- Open the client’s return.
- Click on the Filing tab and select File Extension.
- For the question Would you like to complete a Federal Extension?, click Yes.
- Follow the walk-through Complete Form 4868 or Estimate My Tax (prior to completing Form 4868).
- On the Form 4868 – Filing screen, choose to either Print Form 4868 or E-File Form 4868.
Alternatively, you can choose Return in the toolbar, then hover your mouse over Application for Extension, and make your selection for Federal or a State there. This will open the Q&A to the File Extension step noted above.
