Mortgage Interest – Foreign Home
For information about whether you can claim the mortgage interest paid on a foreign loan for a foreign home, go to the IRS website.
Online
Dashboard
- From within your TaxAct return, click Deductions & Credits.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Click the Your Home drop-down.
- Click Add beside Mortgage Interest & Refinancing.
- On the screen Here’s a review of your mortgage interest reported on Form 1098, click Continue.
- Click Yes when asked Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?
- Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue.
Classic
- From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Interest expenses.
- Continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Did you receive Form 1098 reporting mortgage interest?, click No.
- On the screen titled Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?, click Yes.
- Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue.
Desktop
- From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
- Click the Itemized or Standard Deductions drop-down, then click Interest expenses.
- Continue with the interview process until you reach the screen titled Did you receive Form 1098 reporting mortgage interest?, click No.
- On the screen titled Did you pay any mortgage interest not reported on Form 1098?, click Yes.
- Enter the required information, then click Enter a foreign address to toggle to the foreign address entries. When complete, click Continue.
