Missouri – Retirement Income Exemption
The public pension exemption is calculated on Missouri Form MO-A, Part 3 (Section A). It applies to eligible federal, state, and local government pensions, including but not limited to military and Missouri state employee retirement benefits. Eligible taxpayers may subtract public retirement benefits up to the maximum Social Security benefit amount, subject to coordination with any Social Security deduction claimed
The private pension exemption is calculated on Missouri Form MO-A, Part 3 (Section B). It applies to eligible retirement income from private pensions, annuities, IRAs, and 401(k) plans funded by private sources. The maximum exemption is $6,000 per taxpayer, subject to Missouri adjusted gross income limitations, and taxpayers whose income exceeds the applicable limit may qualify for a partial exemption

- From within the TaxAct return, navigate to the State tab from the side menu.
- Click Missouri under the State tab to access the Missouri Quick Q&A Topics screen.
