Iowa – Part-Year Resident IA 126

If you lived in Iowa for only a portion of the year, you should file a part-year resident Iowa tax return and allocate your Iowa income. The information entered in this section will flow to Schedule IA 126, and from there the credit will flow to Line 51 of Iowa Form IA 1040.

TaxAct Online

  1. From within the TaxAct return, navigate to the State tab from the side menu.
  2. Click Iowa under the State tab to access the Iowa Quick Q&A Topics screen.
  3. Click Credits to expand the category and then click Part-year/nonresident credit
  4. On the next screen enter the Iowa portion of your income.
  5. The program will proceed with the interview questions for you to enter or review the appropriate information.

Desktop

  1. From within the TaxAct return, navigate to the Q&A tab via the menu bar at the top of the program.
  2. Navigate to the State tab and click Continue.
  3. Click Yes to start the State Q&A process.
  4. On the screen titled Iowa – Part Year/Nonresident Credit, click Yes.
  5. On the next screen enter the Iowa portion of your income.
  6. The program will proceed with the interview questions for you to enter or review the appropriate information.
