To edit the security settings of the TaxAct Professional Preparer’s programs:

  1. From the Preparer menu on the main menu bar at the top of the program window, choose Master Information.
  2. On the pop-out menu click Security.

If you’re using the Enterprise online option (TaxAct servers to network your program, share client returns, etc.):

  1. From the Preparer menu choose Preparers.
  2. In the Preparer Name list on the right, click the pencil icon to the left of the preparer’s name entry.
  3. On the next box that opens, click the Permissions tab.

The administrator has the option to set a program password that secures the whole program from access. Users will be prompted for a password, but no username.

With the TaxAct Enterprise Edition, you can set User-Level Password Protection. By choosing this option, you can add, edit or delete accounts. Within each account, you may create users and passwords, as well as set the following permissions:

  • Create New Returns
  • Open Existing Returns
  • Delete Existing Returns
  • Import Client Information
