Security and Passwords – Professional Permissions
To edit the security settings of the TaxAct Professional Preparer’s programs:
- From the Preparer menu on the main menu bar at the top of the program window, choose Master Information.
- On the pop-out menu click Security.
If you’re using the Enterprise online option (TaxAct servers to network your program, share client returns, etc.):
- From the Preparer menu choose Preparers.
- In the Preparer Name list on the right, click the pencil icon to the left of the preparer’s name entry.
- On the next box that opens, click the Permissions tab.
The administrator has the option to set a program password that secures the whole program from access. Users will be prompted for a password, but no username.
With the TaxAct Enterprise Edition, you can set User-Level Password Protection. By choosing this option, you can add, edit or delete accounts. Within each account, you may create users and passwords, as well as set the following permissions:
- Edit Practice Information
- Edit Preparer Information
- Edit Client Status Options
- Modify Directories (local only)
- Change General Filing Settings
- Change Miscellaneous Settings
- Change Calculation Settings
- Edit Master Forms
- Download/Install Updates (local only)
- Create New Returns
- Open Existing Returns
- Delete Existing Returns
- Import Client Information
- Export Client Information
- Print Client Information
- E-File/Online Backup
- View All Clients in Practice (online only)
When choosing User-Level Password Protection (for local network) you will need to choose Add New User and create a username and password before choosing the rights above. Please note when you set up a username and password it will be required the next time you launch the program.
