Desktop Versions – “Not a Valid Win32 Application Error” Received
Error: “Not a Valid Win32 Application” When Installing TaxAct
If you downloaded the TaxAct program but see a “Not a valid Win32 application” error when trying to run the installer ([filename].exe), it’s likely that the file became corrupted during download.
Step 1: Delete the Corrupted File
- Go to your Downloads folder and delete the TaxAct installer file.
- If you need help locating your downloads folder, refer to our Finding Download to Install FAQ.
Step 2: Try One of the Following Troubleshooting Options
- Re-download the file from the TaxAct website. The new file may download correctly.
- Use a different web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge) to access the TaxAct website and try downloading again.
- Change your browser settings to choose the file’s download location manually, which may help prevent corruption.
- Check your internet connection to ensure its stable during the download process.
