How to Amend Your Arkansas Return
Submit an amended return to Arkansas by following these steps:
- You need to start with a copy of your originally-filed return. If you don’t have a copy of the originally-filed return, change the amount on line 9 of Arkansas Form AR-OI from a positive to a negative amount, print a copy of the return, and then change the amount on line 9 back to a positive number.
Note. If you use the desktop program, print the original return and then run a program update.
- To change line 9, follow these steps:
- Click the State tab
- Click Arkansas right below the Basic Info tab
- In the list of topics, choose Income and then click No, and on the following screen click Yes
- Continue to the 7th screen titled Arkansas – Other Income Subtractions where you can adjust the amount
- After changing the amount to a negative number, print the return and then repeat the steps to make the number positive again (as it should be).
- To amend the return, follow these steps:
- Click the State tab
- Click Arkansas right below the Basic Info tab
- In the list of topics, choose Amended Return and then read the information on the 1st screen. On the 2nd screen, check the box and enter the amount due or refund amount from the Arkansas return that was filed originally.
- On the 3rd screen type the explanation “Correcting the transfer of the subtraction for state depreciation from Form AR-OI line 9 to Form AR1000F line 20.”
- The last screen will provide information to mail the amendment. Mail both pages of AR1000F and Form AR-OI (printed after you have completed the steps above).
