Filing Status – Remove Spouse Details After Importing
When you import a prior-year return, all of the applicable information is carried forward to your current year return. To change your filing status from “Married Filing Joint” to “Head of Household” after importing, you will need to remove any spousal information from your return. If you want to remove certain information, you will have to do it manually.
To remove the spouse details in the TaxAct program:
TaxAct Online
Dashboard
- From within your TaxAct return, click Basic Info.
- On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
- Click Edit beside Marital Status and select the appropriate option.
Alternatively, go to Federal > Basic Information > Filing Status to make your selection.
Desktop
- From within your TaxAct return, click Tools.
- Click Topics Assistant.
- From the topic list, select Federal to expand the dropdown list.
- Click the Basic Information drop-down, then click Filing Status.
- Make your selection and continue with the rest of the interview process.
