Individual – Recover Online Username or Password
Follow these steps if you have forgotten your password:
- Click Sign In at the top-right of the TaxAct website.
- On the Sign In screen, enter the username, email address, or the mobile phone number associated with your TaxAct account.
- Click Sign In.
- On the Sign in with Password screen, click I forgot my password.
- Follow on-screen prompts to verify your identity and reset your credentials.
- If you do not receive a code, you can use the Alternative Verification process (online only) to recover your account.
- Select and enter a new password for your account (requirements are displayed on the screen and shown below). Once each requirement has been met, click Update Password.
- You are logged into your account.
- (Optional) You can go to the Settings menu to change how you will receive verification codes, or to update your email or phone number.
*Alternative Verification (online only): On the screen Enter the code we sent to your phone and Enter the code we sent to your email, you can click Verify your identity instead. This process will allow you to answer questions about personal information to recover your account. There are five steps to the account recovery process.
Password Requirements
- 10–100 characters
- One uppercase letter
- One lowercase letter
- One number
- Two different symbols (i.e., @, #)
- Cannot begin or end with a space
