Individuals: Form W-2 – Adding, Reviewing, or Deleting

Reporting your income from Form W-2 is simple in TaxAct. In the TaxAct program, you can import, add, review/edit, and delete multiple copies of Form W-2. To add multiple copies of Form W-2, see Form W-2 – Filing Multiple Copies for instructions.


Adding

To add a Form W-2 in TaxAct:

TaxAct Online

If it’s your first time through the Q&A, just follow the interview process. On the screen titled What kind of income did you have in 20XX?, click the checkbox next to Worked as an employee (Form W-2).

Dashboard

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Income.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Under Quick Add, click the plus sign (+) to add Form W-2.
    • Alternatively, expand the Wages and Salaries drop down and click Add to the right of Wages, Salaries, & Tips.
  3. You can choose Manual entry, Upload a file, or Take a pic. Make your selection.
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process.
  5. At the end of the interview process, you will be asked if you want to add another W-2. Click Yes if you have another one to add now.

Classic

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal. 
    • On smaller devices, click in the top left corner of your screen to expand the menu, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
  3. Click + Add Form W-2.
  4. Complete the rest of the interview process.
Importing

Not all Forms W-2 are eligible for importing into the TaxAct program.  Whether a W-2 is eligible for importing into the TaxAct program is based on the Employer Identification Number (EIN) on your W-2.

To enter the EIN on your Form W-2, and import the Form W-2 you received into the TaxAct program (if you need help accessing Form W-2, go to our Form W-2 – Entering in the TaxAct Program FAQ):

  1. From within your Form W-2, on the screen titled We’ll start with your W-2 or Let’s start your next W-2, type the Employer Identification Number.
  2. If your Form W-2 is eligible for import, the next screen will be titled Import W-2 – Authentication Credentials.
  3. Continue with the interview process to import your Form W-2.
Reviewing

To review or edit a Form W-2 in TaxAct:

TaxAct Online

Dashboard

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Income.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Under My Income, locate the W-2 that you had added or updated from the prior year.
  3. To the right, click Edit. 
    • If you had started entering information, but did not complete all your entries, you will see Continue instead of Edit.

Classic

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
  3. Click Edit next to the form that you want to review/edit.
  4. Continue with the interview process to review/edit your information.
Deleting
To delete Form W-2 in TaxAct:

TaxAct Online

Dashboard

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Income.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Under My Income, locate the W-2 that you want to remove.
  3. To the right, click on the three-dot menu and choose Remove from return.

Classic

  1. From within your TaxAct return, click Federal.
    • On smaller devices, click the menu at the top left corner of your screen, then make your selection.
  2. Click the Wages and Salaries drop-down, then click Wage income reported on Form W-2.
  3. Click the Delete Icon (trashcan) next to the form that you want to delete.
  4. Click Ok to confirm that you want to delete the form.
