Idaho – Grocery Credit Refund

If you are an Idaho resident but are not required to file a tax return, you may still be eligible to receive the grocery credit refund.

To enter the appropriate information in TaxACT, depending on your situation:

  1. From within your TaxACT return (Online or Desktop) click on the State Q&A tab and then click Idaho right below the blue tabs at the top of the screen
  2. Click Not Required to File
  3. Continue to the screen titled Idaho – Not Required to File
  4. Check the appropriate box for your situation:

    1. If you are not required to file a return and are only filing to receive a refund of amounts withheld (and NOT the grocery credit refund) select the box Check if not required to file (filing only to receive refund of amounts withheld)
    2. If you are not required to file a return and are only filing to receive the grocery credit refund (and NOT a refund of amounts withheld) select the box Check if not required to file (filing only to receive grocery credit refund)
    3. If you are not required to file a return and are filing to receive a refund of amounts withheld AND the grocery credit refund, select the box Check if not required to file (filing only to receive grocery credit refund)

Alternatively, if you or your spouse are age 65 or older, you can complete your return in TaxACT using the directions from the first scenario above and then complete Idaho Form 24 Idaho Grocery Credit Refund to receive the additional credit. If neither you nor your spouse are age 65 or older, you must use the second scenario above to receive both a refund of amounts withheld AND the grocery credit refund. This form would need to be completed and then mailed to the Idaho State Tax Commission separately from your tax return.
