Tablet Application Crashing on iPad
In rare instances, an iPad application may crash due to memory shortage. This most commonly occurs on older devices with less available RAM.
If you experience apps crashing on your iPad, the device may be using all of its available memory. This can often be fixed by turning off certain features that use large amounts of RAM:
- iCloud
- Notifications
- iMessages
- Multitasking Gestures
- Spotlight Indexing
Disabling some or all of these features will reduce the number of sudden app crashes you may experience. To turn off these features, follow the instructions below on your iPad.
iCloud
- Go to Settings
- Select iCloud
- Turn off each option
Notifications
- Go to Settings
- Select Notifications
- Turn notifications off for each app individually
iMessages
- Go to Settings
- Select Messages
- Turn off iMessages
Multitasking Gestures
- Go to Settings
- Select General
- Select Multitasking Gestures
- Turn off Multitasking gestures
Spotlight Indexing
- Go to Settings
- Select General
- Select Spotlight Search
- Uncheck Spotlight Search
