To open an online return in the Desktop app, you must first have the TaxAct Desktop software installed. See Downloading and Installing TaxAct for steps to download and install the Desktop software.

Once the Desktop app is installed, follow the instructions below to open an online return in the program:

1. Sign in at TaxAct.com
2. Go to the Account Dashboard
3. Find the return
4. Click the 3 dots (⋮) above Open Return
5. Select Open in Desktop App. This will download a .taX file that can be opened in the Desktop app.
